The racial theory upon which the Hitler program of persecution of the Jews in Germany is allegedly based, was ridiculed today by Camile Haysmans, Lord Mayor of Antwerp, addressing five thousand residents of this city demonstrating against the Nazi Jewish policy.
A promise that the Belgian Government would continue to give favorable consideration to the admission of German Jewish refugees was made by Liberal Deputy Baelde. The Flemish Nationalist leader, Simermans, expressed the solidarity of the Flemings with the persecuted Jews, and speaking for the Catholics, Senator Lebon joined in the protest against the “barbaric violence” of the Nazis which he said is in violation of the Christian spirit. Representatives of all the Belgian political parties participated in the demonstration.
