A memorandum calling for the immediate abolition of the White Paper policy in Palestine and the granting of independence to the Jews there, was today transmitted to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine by the Council of Jewish Associations, on behalf of Belgian Jewry.
The memorandum pointed out that of the 45,000 Jews in Belgium, 10,000 are remsining on a provisional basis and require immediate facilities for emigration. Thousands more, the document stated, are in a precarious economic position and would be “overwhelmed” by the first economic crisis. The memorandum called attention to the fact that 90 percent of the Jews in Belgium are not Belgian citizens, with most of them classified as “stateless.”
