Pources close to the Israel legation here affirmed today the likelihood that Belgium and the Netherlands would soon extend de jure recognition to Israel.
The Israel sources said that such a step was possible since de jure recognition “in due course” was indicated when de facto recognition was decided upon at a meeting of the Consultative Council of the Benelux powers early last year. Since that time France and Israel agreed to exchange ministers. A French spokesman commented at that time that this amounted to de jure recognition.
