Three Jews have been sentenced to jail by a Belgian court following conviction on charges that they kidnapped and beat up a German Jew who served as a British “agent provocateur” in disrupting transports of displaced Jews seeking to reach Palestine.
The three, Saul Braun and the brothers Alexandre and Samuel Gourary, were arrested in a car with Henry Ross, also known as Heinrich Reinhold, who was hospitalized as a result of the beating. The prosecution was carried through although the victim and chief witness against the three fled from the hospital and refused to press charges and the documents pertaining to him “disappeared” from the official files.
Braun received a three-and-a-half year sentence and the Gourary brothers each received a two-and-a-half year term. The brothers both served in the Allied under ground during the Nazi occupation.
