Belgium’s foreign minister criticized a lawsuit filed against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon under a controversial human rights law. Using a “universal jurisdiction” law that allows charges of crimes against humanity to be brought in Belgium, no matter where the actions occurred, a group of Palestinians filed a lawsuit against Sharon over his indirect role in the massacre of Palestinians by Lebanese Christians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps during the 1982 Lebanon War.
