Itzhak Ben Aharon, the Secretary General of Histadrut, said today that he would not attend Israel’s 25th anniversary military parade in Jerusalem next month. Ben Aharon, an outspoken “dove” and severe critic of the government’s economic policies, said he thought the high cost of the parade on Independence Day was an unwarranted extravagance.
He stressed, however, that he was speaking as a private citizen rather than as the head of Israel’s trade union federation. He made his remarks after organizers of the parade asked him how many grandstand tickets he wanted.
