Moshe Shaked was elected Mayor of Nathanya last night replacing Oved Ben Ami, a founder of the city and for 28 years its mayor. The replacement of Mr. Ben Ami came after a lengthy political battle which reached its climax a week ago when Interior Minister Yitzhak Bar Yehuda ruled that a town council meeting which ousted Mr. Ben Ami was legal.
On December 10, the town council of Nathanya met in special session to oust Mr Ben Ami. He closed the meeting, but the councillors remained and passed legislation ousting high and electing Mr. Shaked, long acting mayor in Mr Ben Ami absences The General Zionist, Herut and religious councillors were not present at the special meeting not at last night’s meeting.
