Dr. Nahum Goldmann met with Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion today to discuss the role of the Prime Minister and the Israel Government in the 25th World Zionist Congress next month.
Mr. Ben-Gurion’s stand on the World Zionist Congress will be discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Sunday. It was reported that the Prime Minister, who last week attacked the forthcoming Zionist Congress in Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, had been advised later that it is expected that his opening address at the Congress should reflect the official views of the Israel Government.
The Prime Minister, it was reported, was told by members of the Cabinet that if he wanted to voice his personal criticisms of the Zionist movement at the Congress, he would be welcome to do so but only in his personal capacity as one of the debaters during the Congress sessions after the major policy speeches are delivered.
Dr. Goldmann was reported today to favor the idea of the inclusion of the right wing Herut in the next Jewish Agency executive but the idea, it was disclosed, is opposed by the labor parties. General Zionists, Progressives and the Religious Party are reported to be in favor.
