Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, arriving here for his second stop on a five-nation Scandinavian tour, met for 90 minutes today with Premier Einar Gerhardsen. The first meeting of the two Prime Ministers, which was attended by Norwegian and Israeli advisers, was reported to have been very friendly.
Andreas Anderson, director of Premier Gerhardsen’s office, who took part in the meeting, told newsmen that Mr. Ben-Gurion called to Premier Gerhardsen’s attention Israel’s proposal for direct peace talks with the Arab countries. The Israeli visitor also reported on Israel’s economic situation.
There was no information on whether Premier Gerhardsen had promised Mr. Ben-Gurion anything about Norway’s position at the United Nations when the annual vote comes up on the Arab refugee problem. Like Premier Erlanger of Sweden, the Norwegian leader. promised to consider Israel’s point of view at the Scandinavian Foreign Ministers meeting scheduled for September 13 in Helsinki.
After the meeting with the Norwegian Premier, Mr. Ben-Gurion was received for 30 minutes by King Olav V at the Palace. Mr. Ben-Gurion presented the King with a silver dish made by a Jerusalem artist. The Prime Minister and the King chatted informally about the Hebrew language, immigration to Israel and some of Israel’s problems.
