Premier David Ben Gurion charged today that both Britain and the Soviet Union, by shipping arms to Egypt, were following policies dangerous to the security of the Jewish State.
Addressing Parliament. Mr. Ben Gurion declared that both powers were selling arms to Egypt which would be used “only against Israel.” “Both Britain and the Soviet Union are aware of Col. Nasser’s political aims,” he added, stressing that the goal of the Egyptian regime is the “annihilation of Israel.”
The Premier made his statement on a challenge by Communist deputy Shmuel Mikunis, who demanded that the Knesset debate statements Mr. Ben Gurion made recently in an interview with the British press, to the effect that both Britain and the Soviets were following policies injurious to Israel. In a slap at Mr. Mikunis, the Premier said that anyone who disregards the dangers to Israel in the British and Soviet policies “is either a servant of another state or Israel’s foe.” All parties except the Communists voted against Mr. Mikunis’ motion.
