A “study circle” of prominent figures in Israel’s intellectual life met in the home of Premier David Ben Gurion this week-end to inaugurate a series of lectures and discussions on the Bible.
Last night’s lecture, which was followed by questions and cross discussion, was delivered by Prof. Yehuda Elitzur, a member of the faculty of Bar-Ilan University, a religiously-oriented college founded in Israel by American and Canadian Jews. Among the 200 persons who gathered to hear Prof. Elitzur were Yigal Yadin, the country’s leading archaeologist and its first Army Chief of Staff, Minister of Education Ben Zion Dinur, Jewish Agency executive member S. Z. Shazar, and a number of Biblical scholars.
