Premier David Ben Gurion, who yesterday chided the United States Government for its delay in lifting the ban on travel of American citizens to Israel, welcomed today the State Department’s ending of these restrictions. Announcement of the State Department move was made last night in Washington.
In a formal statement, Mr. Ben Gurion expressed the hope that “many Americans will come to the land of the Bible,” now that the ban has been raised. He assured them that they would receive a “warm welcome and traditional hospitality.”
American officials and their dependents, who were evacuated from the Middle East at that time, have now been authorized to return. Embassy officials and staff members of the U.S. Operations Mission are expected back here this week.
