President Zalman Shazar agreed to be honorary president of the committee named to organize celebrations to mark the 80th birthday of former Premier David Ben-Gurion.
He said he regarded it as an “honor” to head the committee, adding that he hoped the former Premier’s birthday “will be celebrated as is his due.” Prof. Benzion Dinur agreed to serve as chairman of the 80-member celebration committee. The only leading Israeli personality rejecting invitations to serve on the committee is Mrs. Golda Meir, former Foreign Minister and now secretary of the Mapai Party.
