The election of Ben Touster, a leader in New York philanthropic and communal activities, as national president of HIAS was announced here today. He succeeds Samuel A. Telsey who retired after serving as head of the organization for the past five years.
Mr. Touster is the first American-born president of the 68-year-old migration Agency which functions in 44 countries throughout the world. He is a member of the executive of the American Jewish Committee and has been president of the YMHA and YWHA of Borough Park, Brooklvn, for the past four years. He is also active in the United Jewish Appeal, the Jewish Theological Seminary and is a member of the national council of the Joint Distribution Committee.
