Gobits had been in poor health for several years and at the time of his death was living in the Jewish Old Aged Home in The Hague. He was born in Amsterdam where he began his journalistic career before World War II. For many years after the war he was parliamentary and Hague correspondent for the local daily, De Telegraaf.
