Benny Levy, the French Maoist philosopher who became fervently Orthodox, died in Jerusalem at age 59. Born in Cairo, Levy became secretary to Jean-Paul Sartre and was one of the leading lights in the 1968 student uprising in Paris, which led to the resignation of President Charles de Gaulle.
