The flavor of Jerusalem will come to Berlin when the Ninth Annual Jewish Cultural Days kicks off next week.

The celebration, which lasts about a month, will focus on Jerusalem and will feature performances, films, lectures, exhibitions and other cultural events.

“The Jewish Cultural Days have become an integral part of the cultural life in Berlin over the last few years,” Jerzy Kanal, chairman of the city’s 10,000- member Jewish community, told reporters.

Kanal stressed the importance of the event, adding that it is unfortunate that the city’s Jewish community had to invite numerous artists from outside Berlin because of the city’s diminished Jewish population as a result of the Holocaust.

The festival runs from Nov. 12 to Dec. 5.

Each year, the festival focuses on a different geographical region. Paris and Los Angeles have been celebrated at previous festivals.

Moscow and New York are being considered for next year’s event, said Andreas Nachama, organizer of the festival and son of the city’s chief cantor.
