The Jewish community of Berlin has decided to build its own stadium for sports and games. The proposed stadium will occupy an area of 40,000 quadrometers and will be located near Gruenwald, a fashionable suburb of Berlin. The executive board of the Jewish community has already advanced $12,500 for the preliminary work. The bulk of the funds for the stadium, which will cost about $50,000, will be obtained by voluntary contributions of from one mark and up, one mark being equivalent to the cost of one brick.
This is probably the first time that a Jewish communal organization anywhere has undertaken such a project. The entire Jewish youth of Berlin is now working to make the project a success. The stadium plans call for special fields to be devoted to football, hockey and hard courts and grass courts for tennis as well as conveniences for boxing and swimming. The construction will be so planned as to fit the stadium for Winter use as well as for Summer.
