The Berlin Kehillah Council at its session yesterday adopted a budget calling for the expenditure during the coming year of 11,000,000 Marks, at the recommendation of Herr Kareski, a Zionist, recently chosen president of the Kehillah.
In explaining the increase in the budget, Herr Kareski stated that the greater expenditure was necessary due to the growth of the religious, social and cultural activities carried on under the auspices of the Kehillah. Important items in the increase are the generous remuneration of the Kehillah officials and the support granted to the Jewish youth movement. The Berlin Kehillah is to develop into a strong factor in Jewish life in Germany and in the solution of Jewish problems in the present generation. It is only regrettable that one-half of the Jewish population in Berlin is indifferent religiously, Herr Kareski declared.
