At a City Hall reception attended by Lord Mayor Otto Suhr and consular representatives accredited here, the Berlin municipality bade farewell to Mr. Zvi Doriel-Waizmann, for the past two years head of the Israel Purchasing mission branch office in West Berlin. As a memento of his stay, he was presented with a replica of the American-donated “Liberty Bell” that has become the city’s semi-official symbol.

Dr. Doriel-Waizman, who is returning to government service in Israel later this month, has set up the machinery that now assures the smooth flow of reparations deliveries from this island city behind the iron curtain where, in accordance with agreements between West Germany and Israel, a disproportionately heavy part of reparations, orders are concentrated.

At a farewell reception tendered by the Jewish Community, he stressed that many “misunderstandings and reservations” had been removed by the emergence of a “new and vital kehillah” in Berlin and by its feeling of solidarity with Israel. The reception was given in his honor and also in honor of Ariel Harel, who is returning to his former post in the Histadrut after several years as head of the Jewish Agency’s Berlin office.
