In an unprecedented move, the West Berlin House of Delegates–the parliamentary body of this city-state–today ousted Dr. Conrad Potent, deputy mayor and leader of the nationalistic, right-wing Free Democratic Party, for having lied to the city parliament about a Jewish druggist’s application for a license.
According to the charges against Conrad, who had been in charge of the health department, the deputy mayor refused to grant a license to operate a drug store to Norbert Brandt, 51, The latter, a Jew, had been manager of a pharmacy until 1936, when his license was revoked by the Nazis. Conrad not only refused to grant a license to Brandt, but gave a license instead to a former Nazi, then, allegedly, lied in his report to the parliament on the matter.
