Mr. Semel had been honorary secretary of the Jewish Education Association, which he helped to organize, since 1918. He was a founder of the Jewish Day, the Yiddish daily, and had been a member of the executive committee of the Zionist Organization of America and of the executive committee of the Jewish Welfare Board.
