Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Bert F. Kline, managing editor of the Baltimore Jewish Times for 22 years, who died today of cancer at the age of 56. He was an active member of B’nai B’rith and the Jewish War Veterans of the US, a member of Congregation Har Sinai and the recipient of many awards and citations for service to the Jewish community.
Born in Newcastle, Pa. where his father edited a newspaper, Mr. Kline was educated at Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining the Jewish Times in 1950 he worked for United Press in Philadelphia, was sports editor of a daily in Homestead, Pa. and edited the Squirrel Hill News in Pittsburgh. During World War II, Mr. Kline served as a cryptographer with the US Fifth Air Force in the Pacific and was a member of the Guard of Honor that accompanied Gen. Douglas MacArthur to Tokyo to receive the Japanese surrender in 1945.
The Military Government, the largest single employer on the West Bank, announced 28 percent salary increases for 9300 Arabs in the Judaea and Samaria regions. The largest group to benefit from the raises will be 6000 teachers.
