More than 500 active members of Pioneer Women paid tribute today to Mrs. Bert Goldstein, wife of Dr. Israel Goldstein and first president of the Pioneer Women organization, at a farewell luncheon in her honor attended by leading personalities. Rabbi and Mrs. Goldstein are leaving the United States next week for permanent settlement in Israel.
Speakers included Mrs. Clara Leff, Pioneer Women president, Mayor Robert F. Wagner, of New York, Judge Justine Wise Polier, Binyamin Eliav, Consul General of Israel in New York, and Pinhas Crusoe, president of the Labor Zionist Order of America. Bessie K. Blaufarb, a member of the Pioneer Women’s executive board, presided.
Mrs. Goldstein will take with her to Israel $35,000 in contributions in her honor which she will present to the Working Women’s Council in Israel for its social service program. Mrs. Leff praised Mrs. Goldstein for her “unstinting and dedicated labor and leadership, in behalf of our people all over the world and for human welfare everywhere.”
