Funeral services were held here for Mrs. Bessie Gotsfeld, a founder of the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America and representative of the movement in Israel since 1933, who died here yesterday at the age of 74.
Born in Austria, Mrs. Gotsfeld came to the United States in 1905, helped establish the Mizrachi Women’s Organization in 1925 and served as honorary president of that organization until 1939. Kfar Batya, a youth village near Raanana established through her efforts by the Mizrachi Women, bears her name.
Among the other institutions she helped to create in Israel are the Betei Zeir-ot in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and in Beersheba, the Mosad Aliyah Children’s Village at Petach Tikvah; the Bakka Settlement Houses in Jerusalem, and the Haifa Community Center, established jointly with Canadian Mizrachi Women.
