Former Israeli Premier Golda Meir, after seeing herself portrayed by Anne Bancroft last night in William Gibson’s play “Golda,” said “It was better than the original.” Mrs. Meir, Israeli Ambassador Simcha Dinitz, Sen. Jacob Javits (R.NY), Mayor Abraham Beame and other local officials saw a preview of the play which opens Nov. 14.
The former Premier is scheduled to meet with President Carter tomorrow at the White House in a whirlwind visit of Washington. She is also due to meet with Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey (D.Minn.) and AFL-CIO president George Meany. Tonight, Mrs. Meir will see Vance and his chief political aide, Undersecretary of State Philip Habib, at a private party at the residence of Israeli Ambassador Dinitz.
