Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin was scheduled to confer with Sir Alec Kirkbride, British Ambassador to Transjordan, here this afternoon, it was learned.
Asked to comment on reports that King Abdullah of Transjordan was expected to visit London in the near future, a Foreign Office spokesman today replied that no arrangements had been made for such a visit.
British forces stationed at Aqaba have now reached full brigade strength, according to a report published today in the London Times. Newly-arrived reinforcements are already digging entrenchment and installing anti-aircraft and other weapon, the Times correspondent stated. Among the reinforcements landed at the port was a squad of tanks, he reported.
The correspondent declared that Transjordan is anxious that the British force assume responsibility for southern Transjordan. He also confirmed that a large part of the Israeli forces which occupied the Elath coast of the Gulf of Aqaba have been withdrawn and that the remaining garrison is expected to set up a settlement there.
