The Bey of Tunis pledged today that “as long as I live, there will be no discrimination between Moslems and Jews” in Tunisia. The Bey voiced this pledged during an audience he gave to Irving Engel and Jacob Blaustein, members of an American Jewish Committee mission studying conditions in North Africa.
The American delegates, who thanked the Bey for his past manifestations of friendship for the Jews, were invested as Grand Officers of the Tunisian Legion of Honor.
The American delegation, which also includes Dr. John Slawson, executive vice president of the committee, and Zacharisk Schuster, its European director, was also received by Premier Tahar ben Amar and attended receptions at the French Residency and the American consulate. The delegation left here for Casablanca.
