A change in the attitude of the German government on the Jewish question would undoubtedly do more to improve Germany’s export trade than anything else, the Times said yesterday.
The newspaper’s statement is made in connection with a report from Chemnitz to the effect that Germany’s exports are falling off and that experiments to create substitute materials are under way.
“Granted that it may be possible to educate the German people to use substitutes, thus lessening its imports. But it is difficult to see how the export trade, which brings foreign currency into the country, will benefit by this,” the Times commented.
