“big Three” Ministers May Discuss Arab-israel Crisis in Karachi

The Israel-Arab crisis may be discussed in Karachi, Pakistan, by Secretary of State Dulles, French Foreign Minister Pineau and British Foreign Secretary Lloyd, diplomatic sources said today. The three foreign secretaries are in Karachi for the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Southeast Asia Defense Alliance.

In Washington today a staff level tripartite meeting took place on the Middle Eastern situation. William Rountree, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, represented the United States. Ministers of the French and British Embassies participated. It is understood that the conferees reviewed developments in Jordan and new Israel-Syrian frontier friction.

Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, chairman of the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs, met today with Robert Murphy, Deputy Under Secretary of State, and with Francis H. Russell, Special Assistant to the Secretary of State. Rabbi Bernstein expressed concern over current developments in the Near East and their impact on American foreign policy.
