The Big Three were called on today by the World Federation of Polish Jews to take steps to solve the Jewish problem in Europe and in Palestine. In an appeal by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, president of the federation, the Potsdam Conference was urged to curb anti-Jewish movements in Europe, which, the appeal warned, “must be judged as a worldwide problem fundamental to the peace and future welfare of the United Nations.”
The federation, citing the massacres and suffering of the Polish Jew under Hitlerism, warned that elements of the disbanded exiled Polish government were still inciting and conspiring for repressions against Jews in Poland. It pointed to the 450 Jews recently killed in Poland “by armed bands of Polish reactionary forces, inspired directly by intransigent groups from abroad seeking to undermine the present democratically established Provisional Government of Poland.”
It urged that the Big Three act concertedly against such provocation and uphold “the Provisional Government’s determined effort to stamp out these remnants of Polish reaction and anti-Semitism.” Dr. Tenenbaum also urged that the concentration camps in Europe be emptied and that Palestine be opened to the Jews as their homeland.
