Rep. Victor L. Anfuso, New York Democrat, introduced a House bill that would amend the Federal Communications Act to make it “unlawful” for any television or radio station to portray “any religious group, race, or nationality in a degrading manner.”
Rep. Anfuso said telecasts and broadcasts were casting slurs on members of minority groups– “all sorts of reflections.” He called on the entertainment industry to clean house of defamatory characterizations of Italians, Jews, Negroes, and others.
