The New York State Legislature defeated yesterday a bill calling for a study of the state’s divorce laws. The measure had been endorsed by the New York Board of Rabbis, a Protestant church council and bar associations, but had been opposed by the State Catholic Welfare Committee.
A bill authorizing hospitals to perform autopsies was introduced into the State Assembly yesterday and immediately drew criticism from Assemblyman Ludwig Teller of New York who declared that the measure “deeply offends the Jewish people.” Mr. Teller then explained the Orthodox Jewish view in opposition to autopsies.
