Two black Jews recently returned from Israel reported that they felt much safer there than in the cities of America. “No one is afraid to go anywhere at night–the streets are perfectly safe,” said Samuel Davis of this city, who visited Israel with a fellow salesman, Robert Newsome. “It was the best experience in our lives,” they agreed. “We had always longed to go to the Holy Land, and this trip was a dream come true.” Noting that Israel was the first foreign land either of them had visited, they recommended that the Jewish State be the first stopover on any traveling American’s itinerary. The men spent their week in Israel as members of a group of 15 representing the Bible Land Pilgrimage, a local black venture headed by the Rev. A.L. Johnson of Zion Grove Baptist Church. Davis and Newsome said they were so impressed with Israeli life and achievements that they were considering taking another group there next year.
