“The praesidium of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany hopes the negotiations which started last week at The Hague between Western Germany and the Conference and the Government of Israel will bring about practical and early implementation of Chancellor Adenauer’s September 1951 declaration approved by the German Parliament,” Jacob Blaustein, president of the American Jewish Committee, stated today upon his arrival from Europe.
This was Mr. Blaustein’s second trip abroad this year on this mission as a member of the five-man praesidium of the Conference. He was accompanied by Dr. Simon Segal, director of the foreign affairs department of the American Jewish Committee.
While abroad Mr. Blaustein had further discussions with John J. McCloy, High Commissioner for Germany, regarding various issues, including those arising in connection with the forthcoming Allied contractual agreement with Germany, Mr. Blaustein also conferred in London with Moshe Sharett, Foreign Minister of Israel, on recent developments in that country and the Middle East.
