The reparation agreement signed between West Germany and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany at Luxemberg last week will assist the American Jewish community in its program of aid to victims of the Nazi regime to rebuild their lives, Jacub Blaustein, president of the American Jewish Committee and a member of the Claims Conference praesidium, declared here this week-end in a statement hailing the reparations agreement.

Mr. Blaustein also stated that the part between Israel and West Germany will to some extent compensate the Jewish State for the “enormous it has assumed in rehabilitating the lives of the Nazi victims who went there to live.” The A.J.C. leader asserted that the signing of the pacts was confirmation of the American Jewish Committee’s position that “for practical purposes the material restitution problem should he and could be separated from the moral issues involved, and that it could be made clear that this would not atone for the moral crimes, also that it is in the best interests of everyone to enocorage a genuine democratic regime in Germany.(###)
