Ambassador Yehuda’ Blum of Israel told the President of the Security Council, Ambassador Ling Qing of China, that “the government of Israel considers itself duty bound to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of the citizens,” in view of the terrorist acts perpetrated recently by the Palestine Liberation Organization “operating from Lebanese territory against civilians in Israel.”
In a letter circulated here today, Blum said that the two recent terrorist attacks by the PLO were perpetrated on May 9 in Jerusalem, where a bomb exploded in a crowded passenger bus, injuring two small children and a woman; and another in Ashkelon where an explosive charge went off in a local high school.
These terrorist attacks, in which innocent children and civilians are deliberately selected as targets by the terrorist PLO, are by no means isolated ones, ” Blum charged, listing a few other cases of terrorist acts between April 7 and May 7.
The Israeli envoy stated “these terror acts constitute only a small sample of those in the long list of atrocities perpetrated by the PLO since the agreement between the governments of Israel and Lebanon on cessation of hostilities was reached” last July.
“Since that date,” Blum continued, “the toll of dead and wounded at the hands of the terrorist PLO in Israel and elsewhere has steadily mounted. It now stands at 17 dead and 240 wounded in a total of 133 terrorist acts — all of them originating from PLO terrorist bases inside Lebanon.”
