The illness of former French premier Leon Blum, who is reported confined to his bed at Bourrassol Manor, will not delay the opening on February 19 at Riom of the “war guilt” trials of Blum, Daladier, Gamelin, former Air Minister La Chambre and former armaments chief Jancomet, it was indicated here today.
The 215 prosecution witnesses who will be called to give testimony, chosen from among 900 heard at preliminary hearings, have been marshalled and the dossier, containing more than 100,000 documents, has been prepared. The defense, it is reported, also plans to call nearly 200 witnesses to aid in answering the 180-page indictment. At the rate of four hearings a week the trials are not expected to terminate before the beginning of summer and a decision will probably not be handed down until June or July.
