Secretary of State George C, Marshall was asked today by B’nai B’rith to make “a fall inquiry into all the relevant circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Stephen Haas in Cairo.” A member of the Philadelphia B’nai B’rith, Haas was stoned to death on Sunday by an Egyptian mob.
“The representations already made by our Charge D’Affaires to the government of Egypt,” a letter from B’nai B’rith to Secretary Marshall said, “should “be vigorously pursued with a view to securing from the Egyptian Government just punishment and full and appropriate amends, as required by international law.”
