The five-day convention of the British concluded here last night with a plea by the newly-elected president of the organization, Philip Klutznlck, the great powers of the world not to overlook Israel “where freedom and democracy have shown their strength.” He especially appealed to the U.S. Government to persuade the Arab nations to end all economic boycotts and blockades against Israel.
“To preserve and strengthen Israel is to sustain hope for all oppressed people — to permit anything else is td ravage a great concept and to create despair, Mr. Klutznick said. He also pointed out that the Soviet Union seeks to take advantage of differences between the Arabs and Israel and that peace in the Middle East is important to world peace and the free world.
Mr. Klutznick declared that “the threat of Communism must be met and defeated on the domestic scene,” and emphasized that “no less important in the category of inimical activity is any threat at official or unofficial levels against the fundamental freedoms of America. To win a battle against Communism and to lose the other against our fundamental freedoms will leave us a nation that is a shell, not a reality.”
