The B’nai B’rith has spent $1,000,000 on war service activities since Pearl Harbor and has contributed $200,000 towards the organization’s National war service projects, it was reported here last night by henry Monsky, B’nai B’rith president, addressing the opening session of the fraternal group’s centennial convention which is being attended by 237 delegates from 41 states and four Canadian provinces.
B’nai B’rith has furnished 825 recreation facilities for the armed forces at more than 300 Army and Navy installations in forty-two States and provided recreational equipment for 485 Navy and Merchant Marine ships, Mr. Monsky said. Since 1941, he added, it has contributed $200,000 to the Red Cross, obtained 109 Torah Scrolls for use in Jewish religious services at Army and Navy chapels, sold $250,000,000 in war bonds and recruited 54,000 blood doners for the Red Cross.
It was announced yesterday that the trustees of the Leo N. Levi Memorial Hospital at Hot Springs National Park, in Arkansas, which is operated by B’nai B’rith, have offered to turn over its entire facilities, staff and scientific records to the Medical College of Virginia for the recently-endowed Bernard M. Baruch program for research in Physical medicine.
