An initial gift of $75,000 from Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Baumgarten of Hillsdale, Michigan, to the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation movement for the erection of a permanent home for the Hillel Foundation at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, was announced here today by Henry Monsky, president of B’nai B’rith and chairman of the National Hillel Commission. This is the largest single individual gift ever received by B’nai B’rith in its 101-year history.
B’nai B’rith’s Hillel Foundation movement began its 22nd year of service this month with 48 full-time foundations operating in 24 states and three Canadian provinces and 70 Hillel counselorships in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
Harold Rhein, 19-year-old Northwestern University student and member of the A.L. Sacher Chapter, Chicago, was elected Grand Aleph Godol (national president) of Aleph Zadik Aleph, B’nai B’rith’s youth organization, at the close of the organization’s second national election by mail, it was announced by Philip M. Klutznick, president of the Supreme Advisory Council, AZA’s governing body.
