The Berlin headquarters of the B’nai B’rith, Jewish fraternal organization, was raided today. A two-hour search was carried out by police raiders, but no arrests were made. Documents found on the premises were removed.
At the same time, Dr. Benno Walter, vice-president of the German B’nai B’rith, was transferred to Columbia House, a special secret police jail.
Dr. Walter was arrested last Friday by police ostensibly on the basis of a speech he made in Gladsbach on January 8, but actually because he is head of the B’nai B’rith in Germany. Police also raided the premises of B’nai B’rith lodges in six cities in Germany, confiscating the contents of the premises. No arrests were made.
The attack on the B’nai B’rith had been awaited for some time by leaders of the organization in view of the incessant attacks on the organization by the more virulent Nazi publications.
