B’nai B’rith International called on the Senate Republican caucus to replace Trent Lott as majority leader. Lott (R-Miss.) has come under fire for comments he made at a recent birthday party for retiring Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) in which he praised Thurmond’s 1948 presidential run on a platform advocating racial segregation. While some Jewish groups have condemned the remarks, B’nai B’rith is the first Jewish group to call for Lott’s ouster.
