In an effort to stimulate contemporary young American musicians and to help discover new musical talent, B’nai B’rith’s Victory Lodge today announced the creation of the annual George Gershwin Memorial Contest for the best original 15-minute orchestral selection.
The winning composer will receive an award of $1,000 and have his prize- winning number published. In addition, the composer will have his work performed at the Metropolitan Opera House by 84 members of the philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Leonard Bernstein, at a George Gershwin Memorial Concert program on Tuesday evening, March 27th. The contest is open to all American citizens under 30 years of age, regardless of race, creed or color.
