B’nai B’rith plans to send one million paperback novels this year to American servicemen and hospitalized veterans, it was announced here today. A nationwide drive to collect the books is currently underway. The campaign is for volumes on Jewish themes and books of general content which will be distributed by Jewish chaplains, the Red Cross and the United Service Organization (USO).
Solomon Rosenbaum, chairman of the B’nai B’rith community and veterans services commission, said that a voluntary B’nai B’rith effort last year resulted in the distribution of 700,000 paperbacks.
