David Blumberg, international president of B’nai B’rith, told Jewish leaders here recently that there was no longer a boycott by American Jewish organizations of Mexico except by the Jewish War Veterans. Speaking at a meeting of the Central Jewish Committee, Blumberg said B’nai B’rith, which dropped its tours to Mexico after Mexico voted for the General Assembly’s anti-Zionist resolution, will launch a new program of tours to Mexico in September.
The B’nai B’rith leader said he met with President Luis Echeverria who told him that from now on the Mexican delegation at the UN will abstain rather than vote for any anti-Zionist measures. Blumberg said Echeverria stressed that his country supports Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 as well as the right of the Palestinian people to have their own state. But Echeverria also said that Mexico will continue to maintain friendly relations with Israel. Blumberg said he and his wife were invited by Echeverria to be his guests Sept. 1 when the President delivers his State of the Nation address to the Mexican Congress, and on Sept. 14 at the inauguration of a Third World Academic Center here.
