The B’nai B’rith Women raised and distributed $2,000,000 during the past two years for philanthropic, educational, youth and emergency relief services, it was reported here at the biennial convention of the B’nai B’rith Women’s Supreme Council which was held this weekend. Almost half the sum–$987,000–went for various youth projects.
The convention heard Israel Minister in the United States David Goitein stress that President Eisenhower’s recent foreign policy speech offering to divert a portion of funds now spent on armaments to aiding underdeveloped areas in the event of worldwide peace, was of serious consequence for the Middle East where “impossible” economic and health conditions, coupled with nationalism, permit local rulers to turn to war as a method of defeating local attempts for improvement.
