The Board of Education of this Westchester suburban community announced today it was standing by its hotly protested decision to end a 20-year practice of permitting a creche on the grounds of the local junior high school.
The decision, which barred a Nativity Scene display during the Christmas period earlier this week, evoked 600 signatures on a petition asking the board to reverse itself. More than 300 attended a meeting last week of the Board of Education at which the ban was discussed.
