An announcement issued in the name of the Committee to Grant Licenses to Teachers in Jewish Religious Schools of Greater New York states that the Board of License, organized for this purpose by the Committee, has entered upon its duties of examining and certifying candidates for such licenses.
The Board has adopted rules governing the granting of licenses to teachers in the Jewish schools who have been practicing their profession for three years and over and are members of teachers’ organizations. Members of this group are to submit their applications for license through their organizations and will not be required to take examinations.
Another group consists of graduates of duly recognized teachers’ seminaries who, on the strength of their diplomas, are also to receive licenses without further examinations. These licenses, however, will be temporary and are renewable every year for a period of three years, at the end of which period they may be made permanent.
Finally, the Board has adopted rules and standards with regard to candidates not included in the first two groups. In order to obtain a license, these candidates will be required to pass examinations in a number of subjects.
The first examinations have been set to take place on the 15th, 16th and 17th of April, between 10:00 A. M. and 1:00 P.M., the place of the examinations to be announced.
